EPDM Pond Liners — Pond, Lake and Dam Liners Australia
An EPDM pond liner is the workhorse of any custom-shape pond, lake or dam. It's a 1mm-thick rubber sheet that flexes around any contour, holds water for 25+ years, and stays fish-safe across the full range of Australian conditions — from Adelaide summers to Tasmanian winters.
We stock EPDM in three formats:
- Cut-to-size: we cut from a roll to your exact dimensions. Standard widths from 3.05m to 12.2m.
- Full and half rolls: for large dams and commercial projects. Stock widths up to 15m.
- Underlay (geotextile): 270gsm protective layer that goes under the liner to stop rocks and roots punching through.
EPDM versus PVC versus butyl
EPDM is the safest choice for fish — no plasticisers leach out, and it doesn't go brittle in UV. PVC is cheaper but lasts 8–12 years versus EPDM's 25+. Butyl is similar to EPDM in performance but harder to source. For Australian conditions, EPDM wins on UV resistance alone.
Sizing your liner
Use this formula:
- Length: pond length + (2 × max depth) + 60cm overlap
- Width: pond width + (2 × max depth) + 60cm overlap
For a 3m × 2m × 1m deep pond, that's 5.6m × 4.6m. Round up to the next available stock size.
Dam liners — Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and beyond
For agricultural dams, we ship EPDM liners Australia-wide on pallet freight. Common sizes for stock dams run 6m × 8m up to 30m × 50m. We can quote on full custom sizes — get the longest and widest measurements (with your overlap added) and email sales@pondsrus.com.au.
What you'll need to install
- Underlay (geotextile) — sized to match the liner
- Pond waterfall foam — for sealing rocks and edges
- Pond plumbing fittings — for any pipe penetrations
- Sharp utility knife and a sunny day — EPDM is much easier to lay when warm
Trim and offcuts
Don't throw the offcuts. They're useful for patching, for lining waterfall returns, or for sealing the top of concrete pond shells. EPDM bonds to itself with a tape kit if you need to extend a liner.
